This school year has brought unique challenges to administrators, teachers, and student support personnel due to the increase in mental health concerns experienced by students and staff. School counselors, social workers, and psychologists consistently share that there has been an increase in students experiencing anxiety and depression. Some students and staff with trauma histories prior to the pandemic have experienced an even more intense mental health crisis requiring additional comprehensive support. To meet these challenges, school-based support personnel have been called upon to be leaders in the creation of strategic interventions through the development of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). During this workshop, strategies will be shared to assist in meeting the demand for trauma-informed mental health support needed by students. Strategies and language will be shared to provide safe spaces for both students and staff to participate in learning spaces with calm and comfort.
