The Power of 30 Minutes (Hybrid: In Person & Virtual)

3:20 PM–4:15 PM Oct 17, 2022 (US - Central)

Room B2, BoS Center

Description

The past two years presented educational leaders with a new challenge as we did our best to return to school as “usual”. We discovered it wasn’t going to be easy and we couldn’t just do things we had always done them. This included the way we interacted with and supported teachers. While we worked our way back to “normal”, it was evident that it was going to take a new level of encouragement and care. It went beyond the self-care we were providing and promoting. Teachers were working with students who had been through the difficulties caused by the pandemic; and teachers themselves were feeling the stress of trying to figure out this new educational landscape. In this session, the presenters will discuss the power of 30 minutes and how this process helped to learn about and support the needs of the teachers in two different districts. In one district, these meetings were used by a new principal coming into the district at the start of the pandemic to get to know teachers and set goals for the year. In the other district, structured meetings allowed a space for teachers to be vulnerable about their students, their concerns & worries, and their celebrations.
